SAEF Technology SFEPD154B-7099A-BWR is an Active Matrix Electrophoretic Display(AM EPD), with interface and a reference system design. The 1.54” active area contains 200x200 pixels, and has 2-bit full display capabilities. The module is a TFT-array driving electrophoretic display, with integrated circuits including gate buffer, source buffer, SPI interface, timing control logic, oscillator, DC-DC, SRAM, LUT, VCOM. Module can be used in portable electronic devices, such as Electronic Shelf Label (ESL) System.

As a new display technology, e-paper expands terminal application scenarios in the field of flat panel display. Parallel with LCD, LED, OLED, e-paper is essentially a kind of flat panel display technology, also known as e-ink screen, which can imitate the visual perception of printing and writing on paper. E-paper products have the characteristics of bendability, ultra-thinness, and can maintain the display even when the power is off, and the core characteristics are low power consumption and visual health, which can be called a new display technology that is "small but beautiful".
The characteristics of e-ink screen products are outstanding, and the downstream application scenarios are rapidly expanding. The characteristics of e-paper related products are centered on paper-like substitution and low power consumption, and gradually develop to B/C application scenarios after the combination of cost reduction and new demand. 1) C-end products take e-book readers as the core, extending to notebooks and computer monitors, watch bracelets and other wearable products, smart home and other application fields; 2) The B-end is the key development and application field of the current market, and the product takes the low-power IoT retail market as the main application scenario, and expands to the fields of smart retail, smart logistics, smart transportation, smart industry, smart healthcare, and smart education.
Microencapsulation electrophoresis technology occupies the mainstream position of electronic ink screen display. The core technology of the e-ink screen is the design of the display module scheme, of which the microcapsule electrophoresis technology is the mainstream scheme. The product design consists of a TFT substrate and two layers of electrodes, sandwiched between positively charged black particles and negatively charged white particles. This technology uses the principle of positive and negative attraction, by applying electrodes to control the pixels to display black or white, and you can also adjust the voltage size to control the position of the black or white particles from the top display area to display gray.
Driven by the demand for terminal applications, the e-ink screen market has ushered in a period of rapid growth. According to TrendForce statistics and forecasts, the total size of the global e-ink screen market was US$3.1 billion in 2021 and is expected to reach US$20.34 billion in 2026, with a compound annual growth rate of 45.62% from 2021 to 2026E. In terms of end-use applications, consumer electronics accounted for the largest market share in 2021, reaching 53.70%. Combined with Mordor Intelligence statistics and forecasts, the growth rate of other end-use markets will be at the highest level among all end-use segments during the forecast period, with a CAGR of 52.20% from 2021 to 2026E.
The upstream concentration of the e-ink screen industry is high, the characteristics of industrial clusters in the midstream field are becoming increasingly prominent, and the downstream terminal brands tend to be diversified. The upstream diaphragm manufacturers are dominated by Taiwan's Yuantai Technology with its leading technology, and other suppliers include Guangzhou Aoyi Electronics, which generally presents an oligopoly pattern. Midstream module manufacturers have formed industrial clusters including Yuantai Technology, BOE, Qingyue Optoelectronics, Yashi Optoelectronics, etc., accounting for more than 90% of the global e-paper module market share, and the characteristics of clusters are becoming increasingly prominent. Downstream terminal manufacturers include consumer electronics manufacturers such as Zhangyue Technology, ESL solution providers such as Hanshow Technology, and with the continuous addition of application software brands such as iFLYTEK, the types of manufacturers tend to diversify.
The value of the display module of e-ink screen products accounts for a prominent proportion, and the middle and upstream fields are the core links of the industrial chain. Taking Kindle e-book readers as an example, display modules account for more than 40% of the hardware cost share of the whole machine, followed by communication modules accounting for about 20%, processors and related chips accounting for about 20%, and structural parts, PCBs and other hardware parts accounting for about 10% of the remaining share. We believe that the middle and upper reaches of the industrial chain are the core of the competitive landscape, and the situation that the large-scale commercialization of e-paper products is limited by the continued high price of single products will be gradually broken.
